As I basked in the warmth of the Trinidadian sun, the familiar strains of Soca music drifted through the air, beckoning me to dance. Trinidad Carnival is more than just a festival. It’s a celebration of life itself. It’s a testament to the resilience and spirit of the Trinidadian people, which crescendoes on Carnival Monday and Tuesday.
The Road
Participating in Trinidad Carnival with the band YUMA was an unforgettable experience. It left me with memories to cherish for a lifetime. From the intricately designed costumes to the vibrant energy on the road, YUMA was a standout choice for Carnival revelers seeking an exceptional and immersive celebration.
Overall, my experience with YUMA exceeded all expectations. Every moment was filled with excitement and joy. The drinks flowed freely, and the vibes were infectious. I would not hesitate to participate with YUMA again in the future.
Monday Wear
Brand: KAISO. Karnival
Cost: Approx. 185 USD
One of my favorite aspects of participating in Trinidad Carnival is the distinction between Monday and Tuesday. Each day offers a unique experience, allowing revelers to immerse themselves fully in the festivities. Monday holds a special place in my heart because it’s less formal, providing an opportunity to express oneself freely without the constraints of elaborate costumes. This day allows participants to don their chosen “Monday Wear,” showcasing individual style and creativity. It’s a time to let loose, to dance with abandon in a more relaxed atmosphere.
Initially, I struggled to find the perfect piece. I was unhappy with the piece I ordered ahead of time from another brand. I remember crossing my fingers and toes on Carnival Friday as I messaged KAISO. Karnival’s Instagram page, hoping they had something available for sale. Despite purchasing my Monday Wear at the last minute, I couldn’t have been more pleased with my choice.
The sporty one-piece ensemble, a beautiful combination of green and white, exuded a sense of freshness and vitality that perfectly complemented the festive atmosphere of Carnival. With its long sleeves offering both style and practicality, it provided the right amount of coverage while allowing for effortless movement. The attention to detail in the design was evident. The flattering silhouette and expert craftsmanship ensured a perfect fit.
Costume
Band/Designer: YUMA/Rawle Permanand

As I donned my Nuri costume, the embodiment of the Chinese Dragon Festival within Yuma’s “On Tour” theme, I felt a sense of reverence for the rich heritage it represented. My costume was intricate in its details and breathtaking in its beauty. It captured the essence of Carnival with its vibrant colors and ornate embellishments. I felt like a true embodiment of the Carnival spirit, ready to revel in the festivities with gusto.
Conclusion
Participating in Trinidad Carnival with YUMA was more than just a marvel; it was a transformative journey that ignited my spirit and left me craving more. Amidst the sea of feathers, glitter, and smiles, I found a sense of belonging and pure euphoria that will stay with me forever. With its infectious energy and rich cultural tapestry, Trinidad Carnival is truly an experience like no other—a celebration of life, love, and the unbridled spirit of the Caribbean.
